3,780 acres in Jasper County on the Coosawhatchie River. Purchased by conservation group, Open Space Land Institute, with the intention of protecting important habitat for Eastern U.S. Gopher tortoises, a federally designated “at-risk” species. This is among one of the largest conservation investments in state history.
